The questions you guys seem to ask me the most are surrounding my health and wellness routine. I often get asked what my day on a plate looks like, how often do I work out and do I really only do pilates?
I wanted to share my full health and wellness routine with you all in the hopes it can inspire you in some way, even if it’s ever so small!
Fitness:
Fitness is something I am so passionate about. I think as long as you have the ability to be physical it should be a priority in your life. I feel so grateful to be healthy enough to work out as I know not everyone has that liberty. Not taking care of yourself and your wellbeing is taking an amazing gift for granted. Not only that, but nothing feels better than that feeling of getting in a good workout and knowing you’re doing right by your body (and mind!). I always say “health is wealth” and I truly believe that as good health is precious and something to be grateful for.
Pilates
If you look in my Instagram DM’s you will see this message a lot – “Do you really only do pilates?”! This is definitely a fair question because I am one half of a pilates company so it would be natural to ask if I am promoting my company or if I genuinely only do pilates as my workout routine.
The answer is, its both. I am a HUGE fan of pilates. It really suits my body and fitness goals to a tee and now that I have The Pilates Class, I’ve found it easier than ever to stick to a routine and reach my goals because I never have an excuse – it’s literally so easy to roll out of bed and do a class at home.
If you have been following me for a while you know I have always been very active and motivated to stay fit but before finding what worked for me I would have lulls where I was unmotivated and go months without working out. Now I cannot go for longer than a week without getting on the mat because my mind and my body thank me for it! When I started doing classes with Jacqui in person two years ago I immediately knew how talented and special she was. She is inspiring and motivational but also has a calm and grounding presence that I crave so much within my hectic schedule.
Finding that balance between the physical aspects of working out (building that booty, maintaining those abs) and mental aspects (learning to connect to my body and breath, mental clarity) was pivotal for me.
My routine on a weekly basis is to follow the Satisfying to Intense schedule on The Pilates Class app. There are walks and runs included in the weekly schedule which is a great way to break it up. I will add ankle/ arm weights and booty bands to most of my classes to make the workout a little more intense and really build strength.
The schedule usually has a mix of shorter 10-20 min goals classes and some longer sessions so I will sometimes change the schedule around to suit my day. Stretching is something I have also focused on a lot more over the last few years so I’ll do an extra stretch class at least once a week. Not only does this help with muscle recovery but it feels absolutely amazing.
Here is an example of the schedules I follow:
Walks/ Runs
I also love incorporating walking and running into my routine mostly during the warmer months. I am really not good with the cold which explains why I have created a life and career that revolves around warm destinations! I usually do a 45min- 1.5 hour walk on my chill days. If I am running, I will do about 45 mins of jogging with some sprint intervals in the middle.
Diet:
Week days
I do not follow any particular diet and I’m quite liberal with what I eat but I do genuinely crave healthy, fresh food more than anything else. I am predominantly vegetarian and eat vegan whenever I get the opportunity, however, I do occasionally eat seafood and meat. During the week (Mon-Thurs) I am very healthy and aware of what I put into my body. My partner and I also do Meatless Mondays and Vegan Tuesdays which I encourage all meat eaters to do at the very least!
A day on my plate during the week can look like the below:
- Breakfast 8am – Green smoothie from Energize Me or small bowl of oatmeal with berries
- Coffee 10am– I drink my coffee 90 mins after waking up and have a weak almond iced latte. (even when its freezing outside haha)
- Lunch 1pm– Always a salad, a few of my favourites are the OG salad, halloumi chopped salad and the pesto chopped omelette salad from Nourish Me. These are personal recipes of Jacqui and I’s. Some days I will also have the life changing loaf avocado toast.
- Afternoon snack 3pm- depending on my routine at the time. If I am super busy doing a fitness challenge or just burning more calories than usual I will have a second smoothie or nut bar for an afternoon snack.
- Dinner 7pm- A light healthy dinner. Manuka coconut vegetable stir fry, rustic vegetable soup, or tofu san chow bow. These are all in the Nourish Me Guide as well. These really are all Jacqui and I’s personal recipes not a sales tactic. They’re truly so easy, delicious and we had both been making them for years!
- Dessert 8pm- I am a chocolate addict so I need a little something even on the week nights so I will have 2 squares of 90% dark chocolate. It’s so bitter at first but I love tart flavours so I eventually became addicted. I also have a herbal tea most nights which helps with my nighttime routine.
Weekends
Okay, this is the funnest part of the week and because I eat so healthy all week I don’t feel guilty indulging on the weekends! All about that balance!
- Breakfast 8am – I will still either go light for breakfast and have a green smoothie but sometimes I will do avocado toast or an egg white omelette. There are definitely some weekends that I’m craving pancakes for breakfast though, don’t worry Im not a total health freak haha.
- Coffee 10am– Iced almond latte as always.
- Lunch 1pm– I usually eat 1 heavy meal per day on Sat/Sun so if I have a healthy lunch, I’ll do a heavy dinner and vice versa. I LOVE a long lunch with friends so I will normally do some delicious Italian or seafood, Japanese or Asian paired with my favourite wines.
- Afternoon snack 3pm- Not snacking after a long lunch because I’m probably still there at 3pm. I’ll definitely have a bit of something sweet though after lunch though.
- Dinner 8pm- Naughty dinners are my absolute favourite! LOVE a delicious pasta or any of the Mediterranean food my partner cooks. Spanakopita, baked potatoes and on occasion the only meat I will eat which is slow roast lamb. Depending on whether I am home or out I will either drink wine or low cal drinks (like Skinny Margaritas and Tequila sodas).
- Dessert 8pm- I take advantage of the weekend nights to order all of my favourite desserts. Gelato, chocolate covered waffles, cookies- whatever I am desperately craving. Told you I’m not totally boring, haha.
Wellness:
Fitness and diet are just two parts of my health and wellness routine, I try to listen to my body and what it needs. A few things I incorporate into my day to day routine:
- Meditation- I am honestly not great at meditating but I know how important it is so I try to do 10 mins each morning. I will repeat positive mantras or focus on my breath.
- Epsom salt baths – I am a water sign and nothing makes me happier than a warm bath – its my “me time”. I always add in Epsom salts and oils to help with muscle recovery and relaxation.
- Hydration – I drink 1.5-2.5 litres of water a day. I don’t need to spell out all of the amazing benefits of keeping hydrated as I am sure you all know!
- Moisture – I am very ritualistic with my moisturising routine. I moisturise my whole body and face head to toe – twice a day!
- Vitamin d – I try to get at least 10 mins of sun each day.
- Breathing- I am big on the importance of breathe not only in your workouts but deep breathing through your nose daily and doing breathing exercises from time to time.
- Night time routine – Having a routine at night that helps you with having a deep and restful sleep is so important. I put my phone down from 8pm most nights, take baths, drink tea and do my skin care routine so by the time my head hits the pillow I am in a calm and blissful state ready for my 8 hours. Honestly, I’ve always just been so big on sleep and cannot function without my 8 hours!
That’s it guys! It might seem like a lot to some but these little daily habits and practices eventually become a part of your identity. Things you can’t live without because they make you feel like the best version of yourself! Something I have always hoped for, since joining social media 10 years ago, is that I can be a positive influence to my followers. Knowing that I might have helped inspire you – whether it’s in your career, your fitness routine or even just in which place to take a vacay, means the world to me!
